Zugdidi is located 33 km from the Black Sea on the crossroad to Abkhazia and Upper Svaneti. It is a small town with population of over 50,000 people. Zugdidi has very rich and interesting museum where together with other artifacts is kept Napoleon's death mask made by his personal doctor Franchesco Antomarc.
City is proud of its botanical garden which was established by Dadiani family at the end of 19 century.
Languages spoken in Zugdidi: Megrelian, Georgian, Russian. Many young people speak English and French.
Security: Zugdidi and in general Megrelia is very hospitable. Security has impoved drastically since Saakashvili came to power however, travel to areas bordering Abkazia is not advisable.
