Georgia is compared sometimes to the cradle of wine culture. The prevailing opinion attributes the origin of the word “ wine ” in many languages – to the Georgian “ ghvino ”. A number of the following excavation finds testify to the oldest customs of winemaking in Georgia there are following finds: vine, grape seeds, wine utensils (pitchers, bowls and winemaking tools as old as 7,000 years BC); the similar proofs in mythology – the goddess Aguna, patroness of wine (11-10 cc. BC), Badagon, (7-6 cc. BC), oldest astrological calendar and many other items.
