Museums in Tbilisi
Edit ThisThe city of Tbilisi in Georgia is full of several cultural activities for visitors to participate in. Among these are the many Tbilisi museums that exist throughout the city.
The Tbilisi History Museum
For those that are interested in how Tbilisi evolved into what it is today, this is a good place to start. The museum first opened in 1910 and currently houses over 50,000 historical items that have been collected since it first opened its doors. Most of the items are open for public viewing.
The Tbilisi Archaeological Museum
This museum was established in 1988 by a Georgian Archaeologist named Rostom Abramishvili. The museum houses the findings of several archaeological digs around Tbilisi. Some of the world's oldest tinned bronze objects are on display at the Tbilisi Archaeological Museum.
The Tbilisi State Academy of Fine Art.
This museum primarily holds the works of art created by local graduates, post graduates and teachers. The works are modern and include paintings, sculptures, graphics, decorative arts and crafts.
The Georgian Silk Museum
Georgia was positioned in a way that made the city essential to trade relations between the east and the west. The Georgian Silk Museum contains several pieces of silk that were taken from excavated burial grounds around the area. Some of the pieces date back as early and the 4th century.
The Museum of Zackaria Paliashvili
The museum was created at the same time of the city's opera house. It has kept exhibits of the Barbierri Italian opera company, Russian ballet companies as well as other foreign visitors.
