Most French restaurants have special price three course menus, but often the cheap prices advertised outside are for lunch only. Prices for dinner are always a bit more expensive. When you are on a budget, you might consider having a warm lunch and sandwiches for dinner.
Budget travelers can find excellent takeout fare at charcuteries and boulangeries found throughout Paris. Many department stores also have food departments with enticing meals to go.
Vegetarians will have hard life. Paris does not have as much choice for vegetarians as other European capitals (even if there's adarling little vegetarian restaurant just by the Eiffel tower, called 'lois's place) . Of course you can always have pizza, or have a Lebanese Mezze in the Quartier Latin, but it is hard to find good, genuine French vegetarian restaurants.
A good place to eat is the Montmartre district which is where you wil find the Sacre Coeur. Try La Cremaillere 1900 (at the top of the steep steps on Place du Tetre), although a touristy restaurant, you will find lots of locals in here and it's Belle Epoque decor together with regular french singers makes a great evening.

Edit ThisLocated in the 13eme, this restaurant has GREAT food with a reasonable price. Here you can try Laotion and Thai dishes as well as Vietnamese. There is a che (sweet bean dessert) bar in the front.
Get there early, because the line can be long and there are no reservations. There is a tea salon next door that is owned by the same people that will offer you the food.
