France is famous for its food, so it should come as no surprise that Paris restaurants come in all forms ranging from the elegant and expensive to the quaint and budget-friendly. The Latin Quarter (Quartier Latin) has an excellent selection of tasty restaurants.

Most French restaurants have special prix fixe menus, but often the affordable prices displayed on the restaurant window are for lunch only. Prices for dinner are always a bit more expensive. If you're on a budget, you might consider having a warm lunch at a trendy Paris restaurant or try one of a dozen different varieties of banh mi sandwiches for dinner.

Budget travelers can find excellent takeout fare at the numerous charcuteries and boulangeries located throughout Paris. Many department stores also have "food courts" offering tasty meals to go.

Vegetarians may have to work a little harder to find a Paris restaurant to suit their tastes. Unfortunately, Paris does not have as many options for vegetarians as other European capitals -- although there is a darling little vegetarian restaurant called La Victoire Supreme du Coeur located at 27-31 rue du Bourg Tibourg, Paris 4, Metro Hotel-de-Ville ( www.vscoeur.com) . Of course you can always have pizza or order up a Lebanese Mezze in the Quartier Latin.

An exceptional place to enjoy a meal in Paris is the Montmartre district. Here, you will find La Basilique du Sacre Coeur de Montmarte (The Sacred-Heart Bascilla of Montmarte). Try La Cremaillere 1900 located at the top of the steep steps on Place du Tetre ( www.cremaillere1900.com). Although this is a touristy restaurant, you will also find lots of locals here as well. This Paris restaurant attracts all kinds due to its Belle Epoque decor, delicious French cuisine, and live entertainment featuring French singers.

Carre des Feuillants - This Paris restaurant, housed in a restored 17th century convent, is home to one of the France's top chef's, Alain Dutournier. Carre des Feuillants is located at 14 rue de Castiglione, (01-42-86-82-82), near place Vendôme and the Tuileries. www.carredesfeuillants.fr

Restaurant du Musee d'Orsay - The elegant and beautifully designed Belle Époque room features panoramic views of the Seine and excellent, but reasonably priced French cuisine. This first-class Paris restaurant is located on-site at Musee d'Orsay. www.musee-orsay.fr/en/

Another popular Vegetarian restaurant, the 17th-century Le Marais, serves up vegetarian-friendly soups and salads as well as a variety of vegan friendly dishes made with wheat and raw vegetables. Le Marais is located at 54 rue Ste-Croix-de-la-Bretonnerie, 4e (01-48-87-48-71).

Brasserie Balzaar is one of the few restaurants in Paris where you can order up a full dinner in the middle of the afternoon. Since 1898, Brasserie Balzaar has been serving traditional French comfort food in an elegant setting. Try the roast leg of lamb or the pan-fried calf's liver.
