Budget Travel Ideas in Paris

Edit This
Paris may very well be one of the most well-known cities in the entire world, and for good reason. Paris has everything you could ask out of a large city. Even since the 11th century, Paris has been a popular destination for tourists. The Louvre is the most visited art museum in the world and it is not the only amazing site in the city. Many attractions are somewhat expensive to get into, but there are ways to save money. Paris is a place where both the budget traveler and the splurger can have a fulfilling experience.

Getting There

Lufthansa and the native Air France often offer specials for round-trip flights to France. If you still can't find an agreeable price, try looking at a multi-airline search engine. Keep in mind that if you go during holidays, prices are usually far more expensive than at other times. If possible, try to fly out mid-week, which will often give you cheaper prices. If you still can't find an affordable ticket, try flying into London. It isn't difficult to find a website that specifically finds cheap tickets to London and you can take the Channel Tunnel (Chunnel) from London to France.

What to Do

The Paris Pass may seem a bit expensive, but if you actually take the time to see many of the sites, you will be saving an abundance of money. For a 2-day adult pass, the price starts at around $126, but they do offer specials that may apply to you. This card will give you free entrance to 55 of the most popular museum (yes, even the Louvre). You will also get free public transport (excluding taxis) and discounts in numerous places of interest. See parispass.com for complete details.

Where to Stay

Friend's Hostel is one of the cheapest accommodations in Paris with a bed in a dorm room starting at around $25 per person per night. Wireless internet is free of charge, linens are included in the price and they provide a kitchen that you can use to make your own meals until 10pm. A bit more expensive is Le Montclair Montmartre with beds starting around $37 per person per night. The hostel is located in a very artistic sector of Paris and is only a 2-minute walk from the metro and buses (which are free with the Paris Pass). You will get a free breakfast and there is 24-hour reception.
