Sights in Lille

Place Du General-De-Gaulle
Place du General-de-Gaulle is the main square in Lille. In the square is an elegant statue, which was constructed in 1843. Other sites in the area include historically significant houses.
La Citadelle
La Citadelle is a military building built by Vauban, and it shows very interesting architecture. It is located just outside the city center.
Marche De Wazemmes
Marche de Wazemmes is a vibrant market that is fun to explore. It is open on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. You can find anything at this market from fresh food to stationary to souvenirs. The flowers on sale are freshly cut and will brighten up your hotel or guest room. Stalls at the market sell delicious meals for lunch. Around the market there are charming pubs, which offer the perfect place to enjoy a drink.
Palais Des Beax-Arts
Palais des Beax-Arts is a large museum located in Lille with exhibitions of European and French art. The building that the collection is housed in was built in the 19th century, and it is a reflection of the architectural style used during this period. In 1997, the museum was renovated. Among the artists whose work is displayed are Rubens and Goya. There is also an impressive collection of drawings, sculptures, ceramics, and relief maps on display. The museum can be reached using the metro. Catch Metro Line 1 and get off at the Republique Beaux Arts stop. There is an admission fee to enter the museum.
The Hospice Comtesse
The Hospice Comtesse, nestled in the center of Lille, is now a museum featuring the retired hospital, which was in use from 1237 until 1939. The buildings consist of a hospital ward, chapel, and buildings that belonged to the nuns. Inside the buildings there is art on display. Exhibitions also include porcelain items and wood carvings.
