Museums in Lille
Edit ThisLille Museums boast an impressive collection of art, especially at its Palais des Beaux Arts--the second largest collection in France. Although Lille does offer other museums, some verging on the folksy side of things, the Palais des Beaux is Lille’s gem.
Palais des Beaux Arts
A masterpiece in itself, the ornate Palais des Beaux Arts displays a formidable collection of European artists from the 15th to the 20th century. Visitors will find a variety of paintings, with a special emphasis on Flemish painters such as Peter Paul Rubens. Other masterpieces include works by Goya, Donatello and Raphael. La Piscine (The Pool)
Creative exhibits, as well as works of art from the 19th and 20th century, are housed here in an Art Deco swimming pool. 3.50€ for adults, students free. Closed on Mondays. 3.50€ for adults, students free. 23 r. de L’Espérance.
Open Air Museum
This re-created local village from the "olden days" stretches across 10 hectacres. Explore thatched cottages and traditional farmhouses, and watch artisans create traditional woodwork. 5€ admission. Closed on Monday and Tuesday. 143 Rue Colbert, Villeneuve d’Ascq.
