Traveling through the northern regions of France is definitely worth the time and cost. Although the weather may be Slightly more brisk than the southern areas, northern France makes up for this is their historical sites and cultural offerings. Another aspect of this regions that sets is apart from the rest of the country is the Northern France Festivals. Throughout the year celebrations are presented on a wide variety of themes and topics.

Boulonge-sur-Mer

In March the town of Boulonge-sur-Mer features a 5-day festival of sea imagery. The festival features nearly a week of underwater documentaries, paintings, and photography. This festival is perfect for lovers of the sea. It is also the perfect educational activity for young children who possess a curious mind.

Calais

In March the city of Calais features the Calais Wine Growers Fair. This is a great opportunity to do some wine tasting from some of the best people in the wine industry. Admission is free with presentation of a French ferry crossing ticket.

Dunkirk

New Orleans isn't the only place to experience a carnival atmosphere. From late January to mid-March the carnival in Dunkirk takes place. Dates will vary annually depending on Easter. The carnival is an amazing street fair and one of the few of its kind in the region. Its roots date back centuries.

Rand d' Opal

Those who enjoy walks along the ocean shore will not want to miss this festival held on the first weekend of May. The festival consists of a long walk along the Opal Coast. Various durations are available from 8, 15, 25 and 40 km. The start and the finish are both in front of the Frethune town hall located about 5 minutes from the center of Calais.

Lille

Lovers of great tasting food will want to flock to Lille during the first week of May. The Lille festival of flavors occurs featuring 3 days full of the most spectacular culinary delights. The food items are provided by local producers featuring confectionery items, cheese, coffee, bread and beer. Following on from this festival is The Golden Ladle Festival. This is a celebration of soups. The varieties are endless so arrive with an empty stomach and clean palate.

Samer

The first week of June in Samer is one that packs the tourists in from around the globe. The first week of June brings the annual Strawberry Festival to this northern France town. Visitors will be amazed that there is so much to know about this amazing berry.
