Travel Guide in Epernay
Edit ThisThe Epernay travel guide takes you around the champagne capital of France with tips so simple and effective for the common traveler. Although the place is not renowned for its beautiful views and breathtaking structures, unlike the more popular sites around the country, tourists visit Epernay for a more cultured taste of the world’s best-produced wine.
Landmark
Epernay is home to the oldest and classiest champagne houses. You cannot miss the very popular Avenue de Champagne if you are in the city. Tourists come to the area mainly to visit this street. Here you can taste various flavors of the best wine in the country, probably even the world. Be aware that most champagne houses do not serve customers from 12 noon to around 2 p.m. and are usually closed on Sundays. Among the many popular places to go are Mercier Champagne, Champagne de Castellane and Moet and Chandon. These houses guarantee you a champagne experience like no other.
Lodging
La Villa Eugene is a suggested hotel accommodation you could consider when you visit Epernay. This four-star hotel is essentially a 19th century house that offers wonderful amenities and services. This small hotel has 15 suites, with each room designed uniquely in colonial style. Other recommended hotels include La Briqueterie for country-themed lodging or Castel Jeanson for more affordable prices. You can choose your hotel according to the type of comfort you wish to attain.
Transportation
Epernay has various transport services you can use to get you around the area. Airport shuttles are available to bring you from the airport to the city and back. Taxis are another option when traveling around the city during tours. Air-conditioned vehicles for hire can approximately seat six persons. The miniature train also takes you around the city. It usually runs from May 1 to October 31. The train can serve as a tourist ride as well since it takes you through the key spots in the city, such as the Avenue de Champagne, and other historical sites accompanied with an audio commentary.
Market
Epernay’s markets showcase a specialty of products on certain days of the week. You can buy fabric at the Place de Arcades or Halle Saint-Thibault on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. On Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sundays, you can purchase food at the same places, as well.
Dine
