Pezanes become well know many centuries ago when word about the trade
fairs held in the area spread. People
would bring goods from all over to trade and the fairs grew in
popularity. The growth in visitors and trade brought wealth and
development to the town. Guesthouses also started to develop during
this time as people rented parts of their houses to visitors so that
they could earn money. In keeping with this tradition of crafts and
trade, Pezanas is a well-know center for art and culture. Its lively
atmosphere and rich history attracts international tourists all year
round.
Old Town Center
Strolling through the Old Town Center will transport you back in
time.
The narrow streets wind past houses that were built in the 16th
century. These elegant buildings depict the architectural style that
was used during this era.
A noteworthy site is Hotel Jacques Coeur which is adorned with
gargoyles. An example of Renaissance design can be found in the Hotel
de Wicque. Characteristic of many of the grand houses are iron
features, sculptures and impressive doorways. Peering through entrance
ways you can glimpse well-kept courtyards.Tours through the Old Town
can be arranged at the tourist office. Tours
have a variety of themes to add to the entertainment of the activity.
Taking a tour ensures that you will see all the significant sites as
well as gain more information on the area. The town center is protected
as a historic monument. Restaurants situated along the street add to
the ambiance of this area and offer delicious meals.
Churches
Collegiale Saint-Jean Church was built in the 18th century by Jean-Baptiste Frangue. It is a beautiful church that features an organ housed inside the premises. The Saint-Jean-de-Bebian Church was built in the 17th century and it was a significant church during this period.
Vulliod Saint-Germain Museum
The Vulliod Saint-Germain Museum depicts the history of the surrounding area. The building that the museum is in was provided by Baron de Vulloid. Features of this museum are porcelain displays and antique furniture. There is an admission fee.
Maison des Metiers d'Art
This center is housed in the building that once was the consular building. This building itself is significant as many important historical figures have gathered here. At this center, crafts and art are displayed. There is no admission fee and the center is open throughout the year.
