Things to do in Montpellier
Edit ThisThere are many active things to do outdoors in Montpellier, France. You can swim, hike, participate in water sports, canoe, explore caves and much more.
Piscine Olympique d’Antigone
The Piscine Olympique d’Antigone is an aquatic park in the Antigone quarter. There are more than 86,000 square feet of games and sports to play. There is a pool for the serious swimmer and another for fun and games including a great whirlpool slide. There is a gym and cafeteria on site as well. There is the opportunity to take swimming lessons or participate in water aerobics. The center is on Avenue Jacques Cartier in Montpellier and is open M-F 9am to 11pm, Saturday 9am to 1pm and Sunday 3pm to 7pm.
Bull Fight
You can see a non-killing bull fight in the French tradition and other types of racing events in the Arenes des Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer on avenue Plage. It is near the beach and easy to find
Canoe Rapido
Rent a canoe and travel 7 miles down some gentle rapids at Canoe Rapido on Rue du St-Benoit d’Aniane. The entire trip takes two days going outside of town and ending in St. Guilhem de Desert where you are greeted at a reception. It is possible to camp during the night. Another canoe rental company is Canoe le Moulin found between Ganges and St. Bauzille de Putois. Here you travel down the Herault river and can pick and chose how long to go. A minibus can be arranged to pick up and take you back.
Hiking
All around Montpellier are interesting places to hike and explore. Try going about 42 kilometers from town to find Cirque de Moureze. Here rocks have been sculpted into twisting forms and shapes creating a labyrinth of paths. Use your imagination to see what you think these rocks look like. Another hiking area is Cirque de Navacelles where a 100 meter deep amphitheater was carved by the river Vis. There is a beautiful waterfall and several caves and chasms to explore.
Golf
If golf is your cup of tea try the three golf courses in the area including Golf de Montpellier Massane, Practice de Golf de Verchamp, or Golf Hotel de Montpellier Fontcaude.
Beaches
Montpellier is has beaches just a few minutes from the center of the city. Many of these beaches offer jet skiing, kayaking and swimming.
You are sure to find an activity that you will love doing in Montpellier. There are so many to choose from and they are all within the city or very close.
