Edit ThisAs a travel destination, Montpellier France ranks as one of the best. Montpellier is the capital of the Languedoc region of the country and is conveniently located close to Provence. The city is full of people of all ages from young college students to senior citizens. France is rated as one of the most desirable places for a person to grow old and Montpellier Senior Travel certainly contributes its share of positive aspects to that reputation.
Public Transportation
Public transportation in Montpellier is excellent, making the city easy to navigate and very user friendly for senior citizen tourists. There is a frequent and very reliable system of buses, trains and trams to take visitors between points of interest in the city and beyond. Senior citizens are also allowed to take advantage of additional travel discounts on the cities public transport systems. Those over 60 can often receive discounts of up to 30 percent with appropriate ID.
Hospitals
Seniors who have an emergency or health problems need not let this fact affect their journey. France operates one of the most effective national health systems in the world and in Montpellier there are a total of 4 hospitals located near the city center. The Central Hospital De Montpellier is the largest being a part of the university hospital system. Visitors from non-EU countries are allowed to be treated in French hospitals however they have the right to request payment. It is advisable to make sure your policy at home covers you while abroad. In the event that you are charged you can reclaim the costs when you return.
Accomodations
Montpellier offers senior travelers an excellent choice of quality accommodations. The more active senior may wish to consider a place such as the Hotel Du Midi. It is centrally located and within walking distance of the Place de Comedie as well as several other tourist attractions. For seniors with mobility issues Village De Vacances could be an option. There are over 700 possibilities located throughout France. They cater to the needs of senior travelers who might not be as active as others. Activities on the site are provided as well as transport to points of interest.
Pharmacies
Seniors who are on medication are advised to take an adequate supply with them. However, should something happen you should be able to get your prescription refilled at any of the 8 pharmacies that are dispersed throughout Montpellier. Pharmacies are open daily until approximately 5 or 6 p.m., with the exception of Sunday. Should you need assistance after-hours check the front window of the nearest pharmacy. They will have listed the after-hours facility and the doctor on duty if medical care is needed.
