The house and gardens were built from 1751 to 1760 by Montpellier-based architect Jean Antoine Giral for Henri Haguenot, Dean of the Faculty of Medecine, a counseller of the Court of Audits, and a member of the Royal Society of Science.

In the middle of the 15th century, it was Jacques Coeur's house. In 1632, when Louis the 13th stayed there, it belonged to the France Treasurers who had the monumental stairs built in 1675. It now houses the Languedoc Museum.
