Edit This

The beautiful town of Montpellier, France brings tourists by the thousands to its borders. The town is one of both incredible scenic beauty and historical significance. Those visiting Montpellier will find it a wonderful place in which to relax and enjoy some of the best aspects of French culture. A good Montpellier itinerary should include the following places:

Day 1-The Gardens
Montpelier is home to an ancient archaeological garden that is set around the remains of a 13th century church. Both the church and the gardens were discovered when the city of Montpellier was doing extensive digging for a series of tram lines. The area also functioned as an old potter's workshop. Many of the relics that were found during the excavation are on display at the main tram stop.

Day 2-The Town Hall

The town hall is worth a visit in its own right, being a commanding structure steeped in Gothic beauty. Inside however, there are 2 museums which hold many Roman paintings and artifacts from the town.

Day 3-Arc de Triumph

No, you haven't mistakenly been taken to Paris. Montpellier has its own Arc built in honor of King Louis XIV. The Arc is located on the western side of the city and commemorates several significant events during the reign of the Great Sun King.

Day 4-The Promenade

Built in 1689, this 2-tiered structure was built at the highest point in the city with a specific purpose in mind. The Promenade was to be the place where the statue of King Louis XIV and his horse stood. It is also a favorite spot for celebrations and festivals.

Day 5-The Aqueduct

Originally designed by the Romans for the transport of water, the aqueduct once supplied all the houses in the city with water. It is still standing and is a lasting tribute to all that the Romans brought to the area.

Day 6-The Parc-Musee des Dinosuares

Come see the true to life dinosaur skeletons refitted and placed on display for all to see. Scientists have found in the area several unhatched eggs and skeletal remains that have been assembled as best as possible. Most of the remains are local but a few have been brought in from elsewhere. The park still makes a great day out and is a wonderful educational experience for children.

Day 7-Place d' Europe

A beautiful, modern structure built next to the riverside, the structure has a series of great shops and cafes which visitors like to explore.
