Beaches in Argeles sur Mer
Edit This
Following is a list of Argeles sur Mer beaches that tourists can visit when holidaying in this French city.
Le Racou
This beach is towards the south and is one of the best beaches on the Argeles sur Mer stretch. Racou means corner in Catalan and this beach marks the end of the Languedoc- Roussillon stretch of sandy beaches. From here onwards, the rocky projections of the Cote Vermeille can be seen. The beach usually sees less crowds as it doesn’t offer water sports and exciting activities like other beaches in Argeles sur Mer. Visitors to Le Racou can enjoy plenty of sunshine and relax without any disturbance. It’s the perfect destination for those who want to get away from the other crowded beaches. But Le Racou can get slightly crowded during the summer. There are a few restaurants, cafes and bars around the beach that offer refreshments.
Plage des Pins
Another ideal beach on the Argeles sur Mer coastline is the Plage des Pins. This is a wide sandy beach that is frequented by tourists and locals looking for some sun, sand and surf action. The beach is relatively close to the town center, making it easy for tourists to access it. It also has numerous bars and restaurants that cater to visitors. More importantly, this beach offers visitors various water sports like diving, surfing and wind surfing. In addition to this, there are a few rocky creeks on the coast which are ideal for scuba diving and snorkeling. There are also several hotels in the vicinity which add to the appeal of Plage des Pins.
Plage Nord
Plage Nord is another beach along the Argeles sur Mer coast. Like Plage des Pins, this beach is wide and offers visitors a number of water activities. The Tramontane and the Marin winds mostly blow along this part of Argeles sur Mer’s coast, making the beach perfect for surfing. In fact, Plage Nord is one of the most challenging places for water sports compared to other beaches in southern France. Besides being ideal for water and leisure activities, Argeles sur Mer beaches have been awarded the Handiplage title due to the town’s efforts to make the beaches friendlier for disabled visitors.
Vias Plage
Adjoining the sandy beaches of Argeles sur Mer is the long Languedoc coast where tourists can find some wonderful beaches. One such beach is the Vias Plage which is located between Cap d'Agde and Valras Plage. This beach is known to have the warmest water along the Languedoc coastline and is ideal for swimming. Visitors can also find golden sands and sheltered places on Vias Plage. There are several restaurants and bars along the beach where visitors can relax away from the sun and replenish themselves. The beach is ideal for families with young children.
