Bar-le-Duc is a charming town in the Meuse departement. The old historic centre is a treasure of Renaissance architecture.

In 1580, Montaigne considered the " Collège Gilles de Trèves " as " the most beautiful house in France " with its astonishing Renaissance courtyard. This incredible building is only one piece of the important Renaissance heritage in Bar-Le-Duc: a real open air museum, elegant facades, squares, streets and High Town vivid lanes give you the feeling of going back in history.

The " Place Saint-Pierre ", a harmonic blend of mansions along the streets of " Ducs de Bar " and " Bourg " streets, built with the blond blocks from Meuse, they represent the essential assets from this particularly well saved heritage.

The typical facades, the " meneau " windows, the medallions, the " pilastres à chapiteau ", the wrought decorated channels, as well as the famous " Transi ", astonishing sculpture by Ligier-Richier, XVIth century artist, are all well worth a look.
