MUSEE ALSACIEN

This museum features typical family life back in the 18th and 19th centuries. Through painstaking effort it has managed to acquire countless authentic mementos ranging from period clothing, toys, furniture, pottery and stunning paintings. It is located at 23-25 Quai Saint Nicholas. The hours of operations are open every day except Tuesday from 12-6. The cost is 4 euros and under 18 is free.

MUSEE DES BEAUX-ARTS

The Beaux-Arts houses the paintings of the masters, those painters whose works have stood the test of time and are more appreciated today than when they were alive. Some of these men were, Raphael, Rubens, Rousseau and Goya. There are over 850 works on permanent display. On an interesting side note, the stunning Barouqe building used to house the collection is just as impressive as the paintings themselves. The museum is open every day except Tuesday, 10-6 and costs 4 euros. The address is Palais Rohan -2, Place du Chateau.

THE MUSEE D'ART MODERNE ET CONTEMPORAIN DE STRASBOURG

This is a thoroughly modern museum that houses an impressive collection of period pieces consisting of sculptures, paintings and graphic arts. Representing the Impressionism period it starts from 1870 and continues into modern times. Some of its most important exhibits are teh collections of Gustave Dore, Jean Arp, Victor Brauner. Other notable works include pieces by Monet, Rodin and Picasso. One major ongoing exhibit is a retrospective by Hubard Severine Village. This will be featured for the next nine months. It is located at 1 Place Hans and opens every day except Tuesday. The hours are 10-6 and costs 5 euros.
