It is in Bordeaux, the original pilgrim site, where Charlemagne is said to have lain down Roland’s ivory horn after the defeat of Ronceveaux. The Pilgrims’ guide to Santiago de Compostela also advised pilgrims to visit the body of Saint-Seurin. The statue of Saint James holding a staff in his right hand – South Door – (XIIIth century).
