In the same complex as the Textile Museum, the Decorative Arts Museum has been housed since 1925 in the former Lacroix-Laval mansion. The various rooms form a showcase for the remarkable collection of hand-made furniture and woodwork made in Paris or Lyon. The former Abbey of the Ladies of Saint Pierre, in the center of Lyon, now houses the Fine Arts Museum. The completely renovated museum houses one of France's largest art collections. The Museum of Gallo-Roman Civilization was inaugurated on November 15, 1975. The idea of constructing an archeological museum dates back to 1957 when a large part of the Gallo-Roman collection, previously housed at Palais Saint Pierre (Fine Arts Museum), was transferred to a small building on the site of the antique theaters of Fourvière. Successor to the Museum of Art and Industry created by the Lyon Chamber of Commerce in 1864, the Textile Museum has, since 1946, made its home in the 17th century Villeroy Mansion. In accordance with the wishes of the Lyon silk industry, in full swing in the late 19th century, the museum gave particular attention to the history of silk manufacturing from the Renaissance to the present.
