There are several noteworthy museums in France and Grenoble has an impressive list of museums which are most likely to satisfy the knowledge thirst of history and art lovers alike.

Musee de Grenoble

A visit to this city is incomplete without a trip to this wonderful museum which displays an impressive art collection. The famous Museum of Grenoble established in 1796, located at place de Lavalette, is a haven for art lovers as this museum has works of Matisse, Monet, Rubens, Chagall and Leger. This museum is open to visitors on all days except for Tuesday and remains closed on January 1st, May 1st and December 25th. Visiting hours are 11am-7pm from Thursdays to Sundays and 11am-10pm on Wednesdays. If you prefer a guided tour it would be best to visit at 3pm daily and 12:15pm on Monday as you can enjoy the hour and a half tour and get detailed information.

Musee de la Resistance et de las Deportation de l’Isere

Museum of Resistance and Deportation is located at 14, rue Herbert, Grenoble. This museum documents and showcases the horrors of World War II, the deportation of Jews to Nazi concentration camps and the rise of the French Resistance. The museum tour is divided into five parts: Beginning of the Resistance, the marquis, repression, the restoration of the Republic and the values of the Resistance. Visitors can get a vivid idea about what happened during those times by viewing the various items, objects and documents displayed in the museum. Visiting hours are 9am to noon and 2pm-6pm between Wednesdays to Mondays. It remains closed on Tuesdays, January 1st, May 1st and December 25th.
