Festivals in Grenoble

Grenoble is a city located in southeastern France, specifically in the Rhône-Alpes region. Because of its beautiful and diversified location, it makes for a perfect setting for many of these well-known annual festivals.
Grenoble Jazz Festival
The Grenoble Jazz Festival typically held in the month of March is a
2-week long jazz festival. For over 35 years, the Grenoble Jazz
Festival has been considered to be one of the largest representations of jazz
music in the world. Attracting the finest international artists from
around the world, this festival is comprised of over 200
musicians displaying a diverse and brilliant collection of jazz music.
There are over 20 venues for concerts during the festival.
Open Air Short Film Festival
Grenoble’s Open Air Short Film Festival occurs every year in the month of July. Held at Saint Andre, this event allows both professionals and those new to cinema, to see an extensive selection of short films. Since the Grenoble Open Air Short Film Festival is a competition, films are awarded by both a jury and an audience. Throughout the festival, the city of Grenoble organizes a program to inform and show others how films are made and other entertaining movie magic details.
Cabaret Frappé Music Festival
The Cabaret Frappé Music Festival happens at the end of July in the city of Grenoble. This is considered to be the main summer event of the region. Typically over 50,000 music fans attend the event every year. Held outdoors under the trees of the City Gardens, guests’ ears are filled with the sound of jazz bands and other world music. The relaxing atmosphere brings both visitors and those musicians waiting to be discovered. From the open air café and dance halls, this is surely a unique experience not to be missed in the French Alp region.
Festival des 38 Rugissants
Finally, the Festival des 38 Rugissants is an event organized by the Museum of Grenoble and is a phenomenal festival representing and celebrating nomadic music. Many venues throughout the city of Grenoble are host to this special event. Every year a special theme or guest country is selected to lead the celebration. A recent theme of the festival was the relationship between music and poetry. No matter the theme, the Festival des 38 Rugissants is a diverse representation of artists from around the world. Previous performers have included aborigines from Taiwan and those who specialize specifically about how music was born and is carried out.
