La Bastille
A trip to Grenoble is not complete without visiting La Bastille. On a mountainside overlooking Grenoble, La Bastille was built in the Middle Ages and featured semi-underground defense passageways. The fortifications remain today and the view from this vantage point is simply stunning. To reach it, you will need to take a cable car ride, "Les Bulles."

This fort is a perfect example of a bastion fortification and is often off the beaten path for tourists. Throughout the years, the fort has acted as a deterrent, a lookout, a sentry post and a prison. It is a well-maintained site with beautiful surroundings.
