Edit ThisKimo Iron Works
Edit ThisThe iron Works in Kimo was founded by Petter Heijke in the year 1703. Petter Heijke chose the place because in Oravais was found an enough deep harbour, waterpower and wood for making charcoal. The iron works in Kimo was in 1792 the most productive of the iron works in Finland. Towards the end of the nineteenth century the production of ironobjects, however, became unprofitable, partly because other forgingmethods and stonecoal took over the market. The forging was shut down in the year 1891. Today is it the KWH-group which is the landowner and the Oravais Hembygdsförening more..
