Kirkjubour Travel Guide
Edit This The best resource for sights, hotels, restaurants, bars, what to do and seeThis is a stupendous village on the west coast of Streymoy with the ruins of a cathedral that was never completed - in fact it never had a roof. At last, after centuries, it is intended to refurbish the Magnus Cathedral and first it has to be dried so it's under something like a huge tarpaulin.
Near it is the church of St Olav, which once had wonderful carved pew ends. These were returned by Copenhagen Museum to the Faroes museum in Torshavn but St Olav's now has very plain pew ends.
There is also an old farm converted into a museum and a shop.
There are great views to the islands of Sandoy, Hesdur and Koltur and beyond the last named to the airport island of Vagar.
