Getting Around
Edit ThisMake sure you either have a valid ticket before getting on public transport, or buy one immediately upon entering from the driver (If you need to buy a ticket, enter at the front door; tickets are only sold at stops, not while driving. Note that tickets bought from the driver are more expensive than from a kiosk.).
Punch your ticket right after getting on at one of the machines located throughout the bus, trolley or tram. If you have a discount ticket, make sure you are carrying proof of your discount eligibility (ISIC card, proof of age, etc.) Passengers travelling with false tickets, without tickets or without proof of discount eligibility will be fined. NOTE that you must punch your ticket immediately upon entering.
If you have questions or complaints, please contact the Tallinn Transportation Board (ph. 632 7230).
Minibuses cost 10-20 EEK; pay the driver as you get in.
Taxis can be hailed on the street or ordered by phone. Taxi ranks are located at some intersections and in front of larger hotels. The cost runs 4.50-7 EEK per km. A wide range of international car rental companies have representations in Tallinn.
Parking in the city centre is scarce. A valid parking ticket must be displayed in your windshield from 7:00-18:00 on weekdays and 8:00-15:00 on Saturdays. Tickets are available from ticket machines for 3 EEK per 15 minutes, or 6 EEK per 15 minutes in the Old Town. Parking in the Old Town must be paid for 24 hours a day, and some sections of the Old Town are no-parking zones. Monthly parking permits are also available at the Traffic Control Centre at Niguliste 4. Guarded parking lots are available throughout Tallinn; two central indoor parking lots are located at Rävala 5 and Ahtri 10. For more specifics on parking regulations, click here.
