Located between Århus (2nd largest city) and Silkeborg, Ry (pronounced like the French 'Rue') has an idyllic setting in the Danish Lake Highlands (highest is 174m and average around Ry is 45m!!!). The river Gudenå (God! A River) runs through Ry. Here you can sail, canoe and walk in the surrounding forests. Wild deer (roe) abound, and there are campsites and hotels available. It is not a hugely touristic area, but in the summer you will see a lot of Germans and Dutch.
To get to Ry: car or bike or train from Århus. Bus also works. Be sure to visit Himmelbjerg (Sky Mountain, approx 174m high - oooh I'm dizzy already!).
