Festivals in Fredrikshavn

One thing that you don't want to miss when traveling in Denmark are Fredrikshavn Festivals. Even though Fredrikshavn is small town, it is still one of the most important towns in Denmark because of its importance to the shipping industry. Despite its small size, Fredrikshavn has some great festivals that you can attend if you plan your vacation just right.

Tordenskiold Festival

This is one of the biggest festivals in town; it actually draws in around 30,000 people each year. The Tordenskiold Festival has been celebrated since 1998 to honor the memory of Tordenskiold's service. Tordenskiold was stationed in Fredrikshavn from 1717 to 1719, and is one of the greatest heroes from the Great Northern War. Every year, the festival is held during the last weekend of June.

Lighting Festival

The Lighting Festival is held every two years during the month of October. The festival lasts for 17 days and is something that should not be missed if you are in the area. This is one of the biggest festivals in town because of the importance it as to the area. Fredrikshavn is known as "The Land of Light" because of how many hours of light there are each day.

Blues Festival

Music festivals are popular throughout all of Demark, and to keep in tradition, Fredrikshavn offers tourists and locals the chance to come listen to some of the best blues music around. The Blues Festival is held during the month of November, but the date changes each year, so you will want to check the exact dates before going.

Independence Day

If you enjoy celebrating the Fourth of July in America, you will want to go out and see the American Independence Celebration in Aalborg. This festival is the only one of its kind in Denmark, so it is considered to be a must-see. The one thing about this festival is that it is not a holiday that is recognized in Denmark. Like the American holiday, this festival is held on the fourth of July, but many people think the Denmark version outshines the American one in its festivities.

Jazz Festival

The Blues Festival not the only music festival that you will find in the Fredrikshavn area. If you like Jazz, you will need to go down to Aalborg for their Jazz festival during the month of June. The Jazz Festival usually lasts for about four days, but the best part is that all of the concerts are free.
