Beaches in Fredrikshavn
Edit ThisA small Danish town, Fredrikshavn (also known as Frederikshavn) was a former naval base in the olden times. Now, it is more known for its shipping and as a fishing town. Given its close and long history with the marine industry, Fredrikshavn Beaches promises to be something different.
Palm Beach
One of Fredrikshavn’s best known and well-loved beaches, Palm Beach was an idea fist conceived by the local government in 2004. Covered with an abundance of beaches and sand, the local government first planted palms on this beach to give it a different atmosphere from the rest. And work it did – now with over 70 palms covering the area of land and complete with beach volleyball courts, Palm Beach is a popular place for locals and tourists to spend a summer’s afternoon at. Water sports are popular, but the main attraction here is the beach volleyball courts, and often, friendly matches are battled out between two groups of friends or friendly strangers. The sand is also fine and white, so do take the opportunity to spend time under one of the palm trees and have a picnic or a chat with friends.
Hirshomene Islands
Located about seven km northeast of Fredrikshavn, these are a group of six islands. Only very sparsely populated and generally very small, the islands are now a natural reserve that serve as a remote summer retreat for Danish mainlanders. In the summer, visit the islands with the expectation to see thousands of migratory birds that return from a cold winter to the beaches of Denmark. Bring along a pair of binoculars and a pair of sharp eyes, and with bird-watching guides readily available, visitors will be sure to see some of the species. Also visit the lighthouse that is located on Hirsholm Island for an old school feel of a Danish beach afternoon.
Eventyrbadet
Not strictly a beach, the Eventyrbadet is an indoor aqua doom that provides everything a beach can offer and more. Available even in the winter season, the dome is a massive, multi-pool, multi-slide complex that promises an afternoon of fun to adults and children alike. With heated pools for swimming, slides for the older children and a special section of the pools for the younger children, the Eventyrbadet is fully equipped for every member of the family. Those looking for a less vigorous afternoon activity can also opt for the sauna or spa pools that are also open to users.
Although small, Fredrikshavn stands in the center of Denmark’s shipping industry, their beaches and water activities will not disappoint.
