Top 5 Must Do's in Copenhagen

Edit This

The largest city and capital of Denmark, Copenhagen is a major center for culture, science, business and media. Recognized many times as one of the cities with the best quality of life and most recently as the Most Livable City in the World, this environmentally friendly and extraordinarily clean city is a site to be seen and explored. Here are the top 5 things to do in Copenhagen:

1: Bike Tour
Take a bike tour around the city with one of the several companies that offer them. This is a great way to see the city in the same way that nearly 40% of all the city’s working people commute to their jobs on a daily basis. Get a nice overview of the city and discover some off the beaten path attractions that you can go back and visit later if interested.

2: Rosenborg Castle
Explore this stunning castle, its’ amazing historic gardens and the neighboring Amalienborg Castle all in one with a combination ticket for the best experience. A great look into Danish art, furniture and history, this is a great spot to check out early in the morning before the tourist groups. Be sure to check out the Danish crown jewels while there.

3: Tivoli Gardens
This is the second oldest amusement park in the world having opened in 1843. Featuring some of the oldest, still operational roller coasters as well as the oldest ferris wheel in the world, this is a great place to spend the afternoon with your family. Located in the middle of the city, this urban park is also an open air concert venue and a great place to catch a show. Go in the late afternoon to avoid the long lines and catch the midnight laser show for the best time.

4: Canal Tour
For a relaxing afternoon, enjoy a tour of the canals of the city starting in Nyhavn, a particularly beautiful area of the city. Great for a lazy day, this tour takes you through the city’s channels and gives you a unique look at the fascinating architecture of it. Depending on what company you go through, you may be on a rather large boat, so be sure to check before purchase if you prefer a smaller tour. It can be refreshing on a hot day to be on the water, but remember if it is cool to bring a sweatshirt or jacket, as it can get quite chilly on the water.

5: Beaches
If you enjoy bumming around on the beach, Copenhagen has some great urban beaches for you to explore. Amager Strandpark is a 2 kilometer long artificial island of beaches positioned about 15 minutes by bike or just a couple minutes on metro from the city center. While you are there, checkout the system of Harbour Baths along the waterfront. The most notable is the Islands Brygge which has garnered international acclaim for its design.
