Getting There

When looking for airplane tickets to Denmark, Scandinavian Airlines boasts some of the cheapest flights available, and you can confirm this by visiting a multi-airline search engine such as cheaptickets.com. If you are flying out from one of the few cities listed on icelandair.com, you may be able to find cheaper tickets there, and this airline can also provide you with a free stay-over for up to 7 nights in Iceland at no extra cost, as all Iceland Air flights stop-over in Iceland.

Where to Stay

Europe's largest hostel is located in Copenhagen with 1,020 beds, simply called Danhostel Copenhagen. This hostel is located in the downtown area of Copenhagen and has so many floors that, if you bed on the top-most floors, you will have an amazing view over the city's roof tops and even some of the islands off of the coast. For a shared room, prices per bed per night start at around $25, for a private room, prices start at around $100. The Copenhagen Downtown Hostel is also an excellent place to stay and is centrally located. One of the best features, amongst many others, is that this hostel is only a 2 minute walk from the train station, which you must take from the airport if you are not renting a car. Prices start at only $15 for a dorm bed (shared with others).

What to Do

The Copenhagen Card gives you free entrance to over 60 museums and popular tourist attractions, free transport of almost any kind, including to and from the airport, and discounts on most any other place you'd want to visit. It is suggested you buy your Copenhagen Card online no less than 10 days before your arrival. Cards are available for 24 hours of travel or 72 hours. Prices start at around $45 for 24 hours and $88 for 72 hours, but note that children between 10-15 years of age get a large price reduction for these cards. This is really the best bet for budget travel in Copenhagen because, even those activities not listed as free with the card are usually discounted, from restaurants to parks to shows. Just a few exciting attractions that come for free with the card include: Amagermuseet, Arken Museum of Modern Art, Hans Christian Anderson's Museum, the National Museum, a ferry ride on Castle Lake, and many more. You will get discounts up to 20% in some of the most popular restaurants, and up to 25% of most other attractions not listed as free, even a 20% discount on car rentals!
