Bars and Cafes in Prague
Edit ThisU Hrocha
Edit ThisSituated on a diminutive back street between the Senate and the British Embassy, it is also one of the frightfully few pubs that Malá Strana residents can call their own. U Hrocha (At the Hippopotamus) is all business: just four wooden tables, precious little on the walls and a chain-smoking “beertender” pouring 24 Kč Pilsner Urquells. A smaller two-table annex situated across the hall is an even less desirable place to sit, and the bare-bones menu featuring utopenci and stinky cheese is strictly meant as beer ballast.

Branicka Pivnice
Edit ThisRough and ready stand-up joint next to a posher pub/restaurant, just a few steps from Wenscelasas Square and Mustek metro, and offering some of the cheapest, nicest beer in the city centre. There are seats, but these seemed to be the preserve of the older generation picking at their utopenec (pickled sausage). Be prepared to stand with everyday Czech workers as they nip in and down pints in record time. Well worth a visit! Both 10-degree and 12-degree Branik are on tap, and both are great beers.

Na Verandach
Edit This
The Staropramen Brewery has its own attached pub - Na Verandách. This is a spot not to be missed. Not only can you taste a range of excellent and varied Staropramen beers (from yeasty to granat to classic), but you can also enjoy a fine meal either inside the stylish bar or outside 'on the veranda'.
The food is top quality and is very reasonably priced. I highly recommend the garlic baguettes and the chicken breast stuffed with roquefort cheese and ham, served with Greek dipping sauce.
The only failing of this establishment is that some of their staff seem a more..

Novomestsky Pivovar
Edit ThisFamous for food, and obviously priced at tourists, this place knocks out it’s own dark and light brews. The dark was a wee bit too sweet, and the light a little gassier than one would expect from a brew-pub. The food was pretty nice, but it was crowded at lunchtime – we were on the upstairs terrace.

U Vejvodu
Edit ThisNewley renowated is a vast brewery-theme beer hall, decorated with old brewing kettles and pilsner pictures. Located in the old town and even open till 4 am. Good spot!
