Plzen, or Pilsen, is the capital of West Bohemia in the Czech Republic. The city was founded by King Wenceslas II. The cuisine runs the gambit from German, Italian, Chinese and other nationalities. Surprisingly, eating out in Plzen will not break the budget.  

Beer and Breweries

There are many restaurants in Plzen, as it is considered a resort town. There is something to make everyone happy. Plzen is famous for its brewery and beer museum. Tourists will find a variety of beers to choose from, including the local variety, at almost every restaurant.

The brewery is across the street from the public library and the public park. There is a restaurant inside. The menu is diverse and inexpensive. It has recently been remodeled and restored so the ambiance is very pleasant. You can get a meal for $5 to $20.

Palazinki

Palazinki is a big restaurant and also near the brewery. The desserts are the best and are called pancakes. They are filled with jam or fresh fruit and topped with ice cream. Dinners are under $10 and the dessert is about $2. It is inside the brewery, to the right.

Restaurace Zumbera

Restaurace Zumbera has Czech food (which is similar to German Cuisine). You can get a nice minced meat in potatoes or a schnitzel seasoned with local herbs. Dinners are less than $10 and it is located in Old Town.

San Marino

San Marino is a wonderful and cozy pizza place. Both young and old gather to indulge in the Italian food. It is on Raisova Street in Plzen-Bory. A pizza generally costs less than $10.

Shanghai

Shanghai is a Chinese restaurant in Plzen on Klatovaka. It is actually is in a basement and this makes it hard to find. It is bit dark and dingy, but the food is great Chinese food. Most plates are $10 or less.

Plzenka Basta

Plzenka Basta is another Czech restaurant with many good varieties of beer. They offer roasted duck with dumplings and cabbage, a traditional Czech recipe and Pilsen beer.It is near the Central Hotel on the main square, near the Cathedral. You can get dinner for $10 or less. 

Francouzky Restaurant

Francouzky Restaurant in Hotel Rosso in the central part of the city is a great place to go. The building has been restored to its 16th century glory. Here they have good wines and a French Restaurant. An American Grill is also in the hotel.
