Festivals in Split
Edit ThisPeople planning a trip to Croatia should definitely experience the unique celebrations associated with Split festivals. As a city, Split seems to have a very busy, event-based calendar with either concerts or ballets being scheduled throughout the year. However, for most of its residents, the most important dates are those related to Split festivals. Some of the most celebrated festivals are presented below:
Cultural Split Festivals: Summer Festival
The Split Summer Festival is the most prestigious of cultural festivals celebrated in Split. Originally, it sought participating from Croatia only, but now international shows are also arranged. This festival aims to showcase the best of ballets and musical concerts, each representing a different province or a cultural tradition. Most of the shows are performed in open-air stages. Basement Halls in the Diocletian Palace host the most prestigious of ballet performances. The festival usually begins in the last week of July but due to scheduling difficulties, it has often been hosted in the first week of August also.
Split Theatre Festivals: Days of Marulic
Held as a part of the Croatian film festival, Days of Marulic is usually held around April 22. Murulic was one of Split’s resident playwrights and a renowned cultural contributor. The idea is to present the best of native works, including short films, which detail Croatian history and its social issues.
Musical Split Festivals: Guitar Festival
This is among the more contemporary of Croatian festivals. The Guitar Festival has become tremendously popular since there are a handful of other Croatian festivals that celebrate music with such liberty. Usually, this festival is hosted in the last week of April. The emphasis is to call upon the best of European guitarists. Lately, concerts involving crowd participation have become regular.
