Festival of Dalmatian Klapas Omis

The klapa music is a form of a cappella singing.The word klapa translates as "a group of friends" and traces its roots centuries back to litoral church singing. The motifs in general celebrate love, wine (grapes), country (homeland) and sea. The main elements of the music are harmony and melody, with rhythm very rarely being the most important. There are no words to describe these marvelous sounds echoing on the small square in Omis, the St. Michael's square. Those who have not experienced it can hardly imagine it. The Festival of Dalmatian Klapas is a truly special and unique event and it is no wonder that Omis has been chosen to host it.
