Neretva Rafting

Now here´s a truly remarkable destination for those wanting to enjoy genuinely wild nature within the confines of old Europe. This 30 or so km long canyon waters the also stunning Neretva not too far upstream from Konjic, but since the Neretva has been opened up for more regular tourism by several rafting companies the Rakitnica is still a well kept little secret.Too narrow for rafting, a dapper Sarajevan, Davor Yudenich, has started organizing very small scale 2-day canyoning trips here which are alsolutely breathtaking..he only admits a few people at intervals during the summerseason (till late september), and he will guide you through the canyon in small inflatable boats you carry on your back. It requires quite a strenuous hike to reach the river, and after getting used to navigate in a tiny children´s size boat with your backpack ,when night falls you will strike camp in front of a small cave that sleeps up to 5 persons max. You will need to consume at least some Slivovitsj to get a little warm while Davor prepares supper; wildcamping in full effect and you can drink the superclean water in the river. A nature lover´s dream, just search the net for his website and enjoy. Only a few dozen foreigners have done this trip yet, and there are government plans to inundate this aera in yet another far-fetched hydropower project so go while you still can.
