Geography, Climate and Time Zone

Medjugorje is located in the southwest region of Mostar and next to the borders of Croatia. This town is situated 200-meter above sea level and has a Mediterranean climate. Medjugorje falls in the Greenwich Mean Time Zone (GMT) +2, which means it is 8 hours ahead of the Eastern Standard Time (EST).

Currency

The official currency used in Medjugorje is Croatian Kuna and its value is equal to $1= Kuna 5.3. Almost everything in this town is paid in cash. So if you are traveling to Medjugorje it is highly advisable to change your currency to Kuna at the money changers at the airport or banks. You can also carry travelers check and have them changed at the banks. There are several places where you can change you money.

People and Language

Croats make up the majority of the population in Medjugorje and most of them are Roman Catholic. The town’s official language is Croatian and the local people rarely speak English, so it is advisable for travelers to learn a few simple phrases or pick up a pocket dictionary to help you converse with the locals. Drinking alcohol in public is considered as being offensive.

Visa and Passport

If you are planning to visit Medjugorje you need to have a valid passport, a visa and a return ticket. You need to make sure that your passport is valid for at least 6 months prior to the day of your entry. However, if you are a national of  Austria, Finland, Belgium, France, Greece, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, Portugal, Norway, Spain, Sweden and The Netherlands you are only required to have your valid national identity cards. With regards to visas, all nationalities are required to apply for a visa to enter Medjugorje. However, visitors from: the United States, Australia, the United Kingdom, Canada and the European Union are allowed to enter Medjugorje without a visa. However, all travelers are required to be in possession of a valid return ticket and also have sufficient funds for the length of their visit.
