7 Day Itinerary in Brussels

Having a Brussels Itinerary is extremely handy when you are here on vacation. It will give you a bit of structure since the city has so many sights to see and places to visit. Brussels is a fun and exciting place to visit. The center has buildings dating back to the medieval days with the expansion of the city comprised of modern architecture. Your best bet for transportation outside of your own vehicle is to get a city card for unlimited bus travel.  

Day 1 Town Square Walk

Today you will travel to the center of the city and witness what is considered one of the most amazing town squares in Europe. The Grand Place is where all the guilds have had their headquarters for centuries. The town hall is a most splendid building with its Gothic style and spires thrusting into the sky. Many small shops are located outside the corners which sell waffles with caramel, a favorite here.

Day 2  Museum Trip

On today’s venture around the city you will stop at the Museum of Musical Instruments. The Art Nouveau construction of the museum is quite attractive and is sure to pleasing to any age group. There are around 1200 instruments on display. A special attraction is that you are able to hear what the instruments sound like by listening on a set of headphones set right at each instrument.

Day 3  Visiting the Atomium

Your trip would not be complete without you visiting the Atomium. It is a representation of the symbol for Iron. You will love its unique configuration, it resembles an atom. It has 9 bolls or atoms and stands 103 meters high. Elevators take you up into various bolls which feature a restaurant and shops, or you can go to the very top where you get a fantastic view of the city. The fee for admission is € 7.

Day 4  Guided Tour of the City

A guided tour of the city will give you a quick but diverse view of the many royal palaces and religious structures in Belgium. On this tour you will get to see the awe-inspiring St. Michael’s Cathedral, the Chinese Pavilion and the Japanese Tower. You will understand the importance of Brussels since so many cultures are represented by their residence here as a part of the EU. You continue on to drive past the local governments buildings such as the Palace of Justice and House of Parliament and then to the EU buildings.

Day 5  Art Museum Visit

Located in a striking museum named the 'Musees Royaux des Beaux-Arts’ are the fabulous art works from a number of Belgium Grand Masters. People come from all over the world to view the beautiful works starting from Breughel of the Baroque era with art works continuing up until the 20th century.

Day 6  Exploring the Science Museum

Down the street from the European Parliament building is the Museum de Sciences Naturelles, a building with displays of mammals and animals of the world. What makes this stunning building even more attractive is its collection of dinosaurs, there is none finer in the entire world. A section of the museum features a presentation of the Antarctic and Arctic areas.

Day 7  Comic Museum and Café Trip  

Going to the Belgian Center of Comic Strip Art is the main item on your itinerary today. Here you will get to have a barrel of laughs as you get to view all the comic characters from Belgium. Included in the cast are the well known Smurfs and a few lesser world known comics, but hilarious all the same. While you are waiting for the bus to pick you up, take some time to enter into a local café and see why Brussels is well known for their beer.
