Getting Around in Zell am See
Edit ThisGetting around Zell am See isn’t difficult if you know how to do it. It has its own public transportation system that can take you anywhere you want to go around the town. The train’s stops are easy to find on any city map, and it won’t break your wallet. The postbus is a convenient bus system that travels around the town, and it can connect you to neighboring cities and attractions. The main bus stop is located right across the street from the main train station, which simplifies your connections and transfers between bus and rail. You do need to be aware of the schedules of the bus lines, as some are frequent and others only come through once a day.
Take a Cruise
If you aren’t pressed for time, you can enjoy a nice cruise on Zeller See Lake on one of the town’s comfortable ships. Prices vary but are affordable, especially when purchased as a combination with a ski lift ticket or cable car ride up the Schmittenhohe Mountain.
Traveling on Foot
Another form of Zell am See transportation is simple and free: walking. You can explore all the nooks and crannies of the town simply by strolling the paved path that stretches around the entire Zell am See Lake. Since it's not a very large lake, the entire hike will take approximately 3 hours. Just remember to pack your walking shoes and water bottle. You should note that if you want to visit anywhere outside of the city limits, you will need to transfer rails or buses, which can add time and money to your trip.
