Eating Out in Zell am See
Edit ThisThere’s no shortage of restaurants in Zell am See, one of Austria ’s top ski towns. With over 50 restaurants, cafes and bars in the region, you're sure to find some to your liking. Most all restaurants feature local beer, coffee and snacks, in addition to full course meals. Below are World 66’s top choices. All restaurants fall within the budget to moderate price range.
Italian
After a long day of skiing, head to Guiseppes for delicious Italian pasta slow cooked in tomato sauce and locally-grown spices. You can also get local Austrian dishes and intercontinental fare at this cozy café. Don’t miss out on wide selection of Italian wine!
Pizza
The building of Kupferkessel, Zell Am See’s top pizza house, used to be an old gas station, and much of the local design remains today. Very inexpensive, quick and packed with locals, you’re sure to have an enjoyable time at this quaint dive, featuring the city’s best pizzas. While you’re waiting, try one of the local beers on tap. At Kupferkessel, prices are dirt cheap, so you can afford to ski one more day.
Austrian Cuisine
Hungry for local food? Steinerwirt’s Restaurant features inexpensive local grub, and has consistently been rated favorably by travelers in popular guide books. The appetizers are reputedly some of the best in town. Service is a little slow, but the wait is well worth the mouth-watering food.
Who says you can’t find good local food at a hotel? Berner Hotel features excellent snacks and full-course meals all day long. In the morning you can sample various breads and cheeses, in addition to cereal, fresh-squeezed juices and coffee imported from Africa. If you’re at Berner for dinner, the menu varies every night, so you’re in for a surprise. Dishes range from fish to chicken and pork to vegetarian.
Located across the lake from the city center, Lohninghof Cafe is housed in a building that's more than 500 years old. Your servers, dressed in traditional Austrian clothes, will treat you like royalty, and the scrumptious food will not disappoint even the hungriest traveler. Most nights you can catch a local music band. Excellent service, food and value for your money. Highly recommended by all travelers.
American Cuisine
Just like its name, the Grand Hotel in Zell Am See features traditional, “grand” American cuisine, ranging form pizza to chicken fresca to pumpkin pasta. You can find garlic bread, hamburgers and even mashed potatoes here. If you’re hungry for home-cooked cuisine, this is the place of you. Grand Hotel is moderately priced, but the service is quick and every buck spent is well worth the taste.
