While visiting Schladming, things to do are going to include sightseeing tours, shopping and many outdoor activities. If you enjoy outdoor activities the one thing that you need to keep in mind is that what you can do is going to depend on the weather and the time of year that you choose to visit.

Skiing

If you are an avid snow skier or snow boarder, Schladming offers you some of the best snow around for skiing or boarding. The best part is you can ski or board year round because of how high up the ski resorts are in the surrounding mountains. The town has two mountains and both of them offer you some of the longest ski runs that you will ever see. The best part about the ski runs is that they are all uninterrupted. Dachstein Glacier is one of the best places to go because here you can try your hand at one of the fastest ski runs around. Dachstein Glacier provides activities year round, so if you are visiting in any other season be sure to check them out.

Carolino Augusteum-Volkskunde Museum

If you don’t want to try your hand at skiing or simply need a day off, this museum is a great place to go. The museum allows you to view a nice collection of folk art, all of which was done by local artists. You can also learn more about the religious beliefs of the town, some of which date back to when the city was first settled. Traditional costumes from the early settlers are also on display inside the museum.

Hellbrunn Palace

If you want to visit the palace you will find it located on Furstenwag. The palace is a great place to visit if you are interested in old buildings, especially the architecture. It is also a great place to visit if you enjoy gardens. The Hellbrunn Palace was built in the 17th Century, but what really draws in the visitors are the formal gardens that are on display. The gardens are done in the baroque-style, which was quite popular in old Europe.

Zoo

If you are looking for a great family outing the zoo is one of the best places to go. At the zoo you are going to be able to see a large variety of animals. Some of the animals are native to the region, but many are transplanted from all over the world. Inside the zoo you can find griffin vultures, antelope, otters, cheetahs, white rhinoceros and much more.

Hochwurzen Gondola

The best part about this gondola, aside from the wonderful view it provides is the go-kart ride you can take downhill. The go-kart ride is guided, but is still something that every adventurer should test out. You can reach the top of the hill by the gondola or the toll road, but the toll road is only open when the gondola is not operating.
