Edit This

Schladming transportation is one of many different considerations that you should keep in mind when planning out a vacation to this Austrian mining town. More importantly than that, you'll need to consider when to go, where to stay and which activities you plan on engaging in. Schladming is a mining town that has recently developed quite a reputation as a ski base, with a massive set of Alps mountains just outside of the city limits. Read on for a few tips on how to get around inside of the city and outside of it between Schladming and other destinations in Austria.

Private Car

Perhaps the single easiest way to explore the small city of Schladming and to have the best access to other parts of the country is by hiring a private car. There are a number of different rental agencies in Schladming. Although the cost of renting a car may be somewhat expensive, you'll find that the town of Schladming is small enough that you'll be able to explore many other cities and parts of the area of Styria with a car. If you plan to visit the nearby mountains to ski and you're intending to drive your rental car up to the ski sites, be sure that you have a vehicle that will be able to climb up the slopes and to deal with snowy conditions; you may also wish to acquire snow chains from the rental agency.

Taxis

There aren't very many taxis in the town of Schladming. The main reason for this is that the town itself is quite small; as of the time of this writing, there are only about 5,000 permanent residents. The result is that there aren't many cars in general, and also that the town is small enough that you will not require a vehicle to get around on a regular basis.

Bicycles

Bicycles are a great way to explore Schladming. Because it's situated on a mountainside, the town is relatively hilly, so it's important to maintain proper safety measures as you ride. Bicycles are available from a few different rental shops, and many hotels and accommodations in the city have them available for a discounted rate or even for free.

Walking

The single best way to explore the city of Schladming itself is to walk. Walking is an excellent way to slow down and experience all of the different cultural elements of Schladming. The city is small enough that you can easily walk through the entire area.
