Edit This

There are many Schladming day trips one can take. Depending on how many hours you can spare, options such as Munchen, Vienna and Innsbruck are open to those who are leaving from Schladming. However, the closest day trip would be to Salzburg.

Salzburg

Salzburg is just 90 kilometers away from Schladming. The easiest and most pleasant travel method is to drive there. You can also take the bus or train. The city has become famous for many things over the years. Topping its list of achievements is its part in the movie The Sound of Music. Several of the scenes were filmed in the area with iconic places such as The Benedictine Convent of Nonnberg, St. Peter’s Cemetery, Leopoldskron Palace and the Mirabell Gardens constantly visited by tourists and movie enthusiasts from all over the world. Salzburg is also the birthplace of the Great Mozart, and his fans flock in the city to take a pilgrimage every year, visiting all the places important to him from his birthplace to his residence as well as the International Mozarteum Foundation.

Vienna

Vienna is Austria’s capital. Unsurprisingly, it is where politics, culture, economics and art merge in one busy center. It is famous for its city center as well as its electric music. Vienna has a huge coffee craze evidenced by its many coffee shops visible on almost every street and corner. The Viennese are famous for morning and afternoon coffee breaks which sometimes extend for hours. From the city center, check out beautiful architectural marvels such as the Schloss Schonbrunn, Hofburg Palace, St. Charles Cathedral, St. Stephen’s Cathedral and the Gasometer.

Innsbruck

The city is famous for having hosted the Winter Olympics twice. Aside from engaging in alpine sports, one should also visit the different attractions such as the Cathedral at Saint Jacob, Schloss Ambras, The Bergisel by Zaha Hadid and Innsbruck Boulevard. Innsbruck also has great shopping centers.

Rohrmoos

Just a few kilometers from Schladming, Rohrmoos is similar in topography to Schladming. It is also known for winter sports with 54 kilometers of a downhill slope. Another great way to discover Rohrmoos is through hiking. The area has several well-prepared hiking paths such as the Miners' Path for adults and the Fairytale Path for kids.

Ramsau am Dachstein

The Ramsau am Dachstein has a flat plateau and is ideal for cross-country skiing rather than downhill slopes. The place is a year-round snow area ideal for boarding and alpine skiing.
