Things to do in Radstadt
Edit ThisCarvers' paradise and fun park
Here carvers and boarders will find excellent conditions. Thanks to free ski coaches, modern lifts and modern snow-making facilities, snowless slopes or long waiting times are a thing of the past. In view of the variety (in the Salzburger Sportwelt Amadé there is a total of 350 km of descents, more than 100 modern lift facilites and 220 km of cross-country tracks available) and the impressing panorama it is little wonder that ADAC awarded these pistes and cross-country tracks the envious rating of 5.
660 kilometres on piste updated recently
Radstadt, the heart of the Top Tauern Region, is a good starting point for endless skiing fun. The entire area can be reached easily in just a few minutes by car or ski bus. This means that using the Top-Tauern-Skipass, Austria's most extensive ski pass for 5-14 days, visitors have around 660 piste kilometres and more than 270 lift facilities between Salzburg and Styria at their feet; namely the Salzburger Sportwelt Amadé, the Skiparadies Dachstein-Tauern, Obertauern and the Lungau skiing region. (Price for the 6-day ski pass: adults ATS 2,120/Euro154.07, children ATS 1,175/Euro 85.39).
All inclusive for piste magic
The ski pass for the Salzburger Sportwelt Amadé is available for 1 to 18 days (price for adults between ATS 400/Euro 29.07 and ATS 3,995/Euro 290.33, for children between ATS 225/Euro 16.35 and ATS 2,205/Euro 160.24) and, naturally, in the off-season at a reduced price. Moderately priced skiing packages from 3-14 days are offered by a number of Radstadt-based accommodation enterprises.
The centre of cross-country skiing
Cross-country skiers are spoiled here, because Radstadt can boast of certainly one of the largest and most beautiful cross-country areas of the Salzburger Sportwelt Amadé. With 160 kilometres of prepared cross-country tracks (for classic-style as well as skating) at all difficulty levels, particularly the 50 km long Tauern track, Radstadt makes the cross-country skiers' heart not only beat faster, but also higher. The international Tauern race, one of the most popular cross-country races with more than 1000 participants, is being organized in the Salzburger Sportwelt Amadé for the 25th time to be held on January 28th, 2001. Even renowned Radstadt-based cross-country champions, such as world champion Alois Stadlober, the World-Loppet overall champion and triple mountain race world champion Gudrun Pflüger, or the nordic ÖSV head and former Wasa race winner Walter Mayer, always find new challenges on the diverse tracks, including the wonderful tracks at high altitude.
High "Snow"-ciety
Not only alpine skiing, but also cross-country skiing and snowboarding dominate the Radstadt sports programme. Excellent ski and cross-country ski schools in the "Snow on Snow" Snowboard-Center Radstadt-Zauchensee courses are offered for beginners to advanced skiers in addition to special technique camps or race camps. Tennis, riding (in the indoor riding arenas), winter hiking, tobogganing, skating, ice-curling or romantic excursions in horse-drawn carriages are offered as well. And since the visitor cannot live from sports alone, here home-made and international cuisine is served. Right in the centre of sociability and hospitality, Radstadt offers new dimensions of experience for the sophisticated holiday-maker.
