A day's walking in one of the beatifull mountains is much worth the effort. You should head for Semmering, Rax, Schneeberg or Puchberg. Also in wintertime smaller scale up to date skiing facilities are available. If you want to discover a mountain by foot it will take you most of the day. Your achievements will be rewarding. A small tip of advice for those less experienced with mountain-hiking: locals will give advise to carefully observe the weather changes and take it seriously. Thank god they have invented mobile-phones (mobi in German)!
