Yerevan is the heart and soul of Armenia which is why there are many Yerevan Festivals compared to festivals in other Armenian cities. Participate in the festivals as they travel down the venues of Yerevan. There are a few native and national festivals for you to enjoy, however in 2010 the city is famous for hosting many international film, music, and conference festivals.  A trip to Yerevan would not be complete without attending one of these fabulous festivals.

Cultural Festivals and Events

Independence Day

Join in the festivities on September 21st while the Armenians celebrate their independence. Military parades march down the streets several times during the day. The streets are flooded with the populace which would be a good time to converse with the native folk. All along the main venues stages are set up to display all sorts of arts. Relish in the musical concerts or stop to listen at a drama play. No matter what you choose, you are ensured a great time.

Musa Ler Festival

You can experience the Armenian’s grateful attitude by attending this national festival. About 10km away from Yerevan in a village named Musaler the merriment begins. This Musa Ler Festival takes place every year beginning at 8:pm on September 21 continuing through the next day. Its purpose is to celebrate the rescue of Armenian villagers who held back Turkish attackers in 1915. The villagers were offered harish by the French sailors who rescued them. So you will understand why  the festival centers around the cooking of harisha. Harisha consists of chicken or lamb mixed with rice or grains. It is a time of intense celebration, filled with traditional dances and instruments.

Golden Apricot Film festival

For the film lover this event really is a golden opportunity to observe different cultures that produce movies and films. This international festival is getting worldwide recognition based on its wide variety of films expressing the lives of various religious and ethnic people. The integration of cultures can capture your attention as it has for so many others. The diversity of input is what has kept this entertaining event going for several years.

High Fest International Performing Arts Festival

See why this performing arts festival has astounded the Southern Caucasus Region populace with radical shows for the past 7 years. Usually around 100 performances are staged all throughout the venues of Yerevan. It is amazing to see 35 or more countries demonstrate the uniqueness of their culture. Find yourself enjoying a street act, maybe a drama or comedy performance. All styles of music are performed open air all through the city. The first week of October is when the festival is held.
