Family Travel Ideas in Yerevan

Edit This

Primarily built from pink stone (even most of the Grand Republic Square), Yerevan has endeared itself to its residents and tourists alike as “the Pink City”. The name alone reveals that it is definitely a sight to behold. Once there, the whole family can immerse itself in the city’s culture and history in the numerous museums, theaters and old churches. The city never sleeps; it is always alive and ready to give the whole family an extra dose of adventure.

Republic Square (Lenin Square)

Republic Square is the perfect place to begin a vacation in Yerevan. As beautiful and lively as any place could be; this is the city’s center. It is the best place to catch a parade or procession, to observe ceremonies and gathering, if you’re lucky enough to be visiting during a high day or holiday. The pink stone gleaming under Armenian sunshine looks ethereal and at night, the place is alive with lights. Home to the “singing fountains”; visit the square at night to catch streams of water “dance” to music and accompanying lights. Fashionable boutiques, cozy cafes and welcoming restaurants are scattered around the area, which is accessible from the numerous theaters and museums that are situated near the heart of the city.

The Modern Art Museum

Yerevan has no shortage of museums, the National Art Gallery being the most famous of them all—but the Modern Art Museum has a charm of its own—because it provides the tourist with an insight into the  artistic changes in the Armenian soul. Without losing their Armenian foothold, contemporary artists blend their creations with the avant-garde influences of other cultures.

Children’s Art Museum

It has often been said that art, of any form, is a window to society’s soul: if this is true, then a visit to this museum will be truly refreshing. Home to a unique collection of pictures gathered from all over the world, a walk through the museum’s gallery is an experience one would definitely want to have.

Hrazdan River Gorge

The perfect place to bring the entire family together—the quiet allure of the river contrasting beautifully with the buzz of cafes and restaurants around it. The cool breeze is enough to tempt anyone for a stroll around the river during summer, but if tired feet might pose a problem, a mini-train will get wherever you want to go around the gorge. The cafes are quaint and whimsical, as they are all over Yerevan, and there are awesome themed restaurants the whole family will love.

Yerevan is a place any tourist would find amazing—the whole city is pulsing with centuries’ worth of history mingling with modern culture. The parks, museums and squares are all breathtaking, the commute is easy and the locals are friendly. Just remember to dress for the season and prepare to have your heart stolen by the wonders of “The Pink City”
