Vayots Dzor Marz Travel Guide

Drive south from Yerevan through the Ararat Valley, then head up the windy road into the mountains, and in an hour you'll enter Vayots Dzor Marz.  At the center of it is Yeghegnadzor, the regional capital.  The entire mountainous region is full of ancient monuments, canyons, caves, spas, vineyards, monasteries and fortresses, and caravanseray.  Though it's an easy drive from Yerevan for a day trip, spending a couple of nights here is a rewarding way to explore more than the usual one or two sights.
