Bearing one of the richest troves of Monasteries, Fortresses, forests, canyons, rivers and mountains, Lori is a place you could easily spend a week without running out of things to see or do.  Most of the sites are Monasteries, but the nature they are found in is beautiful, and some are impossible to reach with cars, so hiking through the forest is your only option.

Here is a list of some of the more worthwhile sights:

*Haghpat Monastery
*Sanahin Monastery
*Migoyan Museum in Sanahin
*Odzun Church
*Horomayri Monastery
*Akhtala Monastery
*Kobayr Monastery
*S. Grigori Monastery
*Khuchapi Monastery
*Khorakert Monastery
*Hnevank Monastery
*Lori Fortress
*Russian "Amish" Villages
*Tumanyan House-Museum in Dsegh

Sanahin Monastery

UNESCO World Heritage site.  This monastery - across the canyon from Haghpat is named Sanahin to mean - This is older than That (referring to Haghpat).  The famous Armenian bard Sayat Nova used to play here, and there was an active school of learning.  Make sure to see inside the locked library - and see if they'll let you climb the bell tower.

This basilica comes to us from the 8th century, in great condition, in the middle of Odzun village.  There are memorial steles outside, some graves, and make sure they unlock the church to see the interior - which must have amazed all who saw the grand heights 1,300 years ago.

Kobayr is on the side of a cliff in the Debed River gorge.  Above a tiny hamlet of homes so steep, there are no streets.  Park by the railroad tracks and head up the stairs, through the often muddy village, and in 20 minutes you'll be above it all in this beautiful Georgian-Armenian masterpiece.  Currently undergoing restoration, the once exposed frescoes are stunningly colorful and beautiful.  A must see in the area!
