Practical Information in Lori Marz
Edit ThisThe heart of the Debed River canyon is 2.5 hours away from Yerevan. Though most tourists spend over 5 hours in the car going back and forth as a day trip, you should seriously consider spending a couple of nights in the area, making the visit less rushed and more rewarding.
The nicest place to stay is the Tufenkian hotel - right on the Debed river in Dzoraget. Probably the most expensive as well.
Lori Resort is a good budget option in the forest. It's seen some remodeling and is close to where you want to be.
Vanadzor is a bit too far south to be very practical, but it does offer some decent accomodations if you're in a pinch.
When you've checked off all you want to see in Lori, head over to Tavush Marz and Dilijan either via the north (Alaverdi to Noyemberian then south) or the south (Vanadzor then east to Dilijan, passing the Russian "Amish" villages). Spend another night there and another in Sevan as you make your way back to Yerevan!
