Once a winter Olympic training ground of the Soviet Union, Tsaghkadzor saw a long post-Soviet design before the owner of the Kotayk Brewery adopted it as one of his pet projects. Now, Austrian ski lifts, new runs, luxury hotels, restaurants, and an overall boom has accompanied skiing that has remained very affordable.
The town has the beautiful Kecharis Monastery which underwent some renovations in time for the 2001 celebrations of Armenia's 1700th anniversary of accepting Christianity as the state religion.
